Why TURANAI

What never changes for us

Four principles behind every piece TURANAI makes.

01

Honest materials

We choose silk, velvet, linen and cotton for their natural texture, their comfort and the way they age beautifully. We state openly what every piece is made of.

02

Ornament in our own reading

We draw every pattern ourselves, inspired by Kyrgyz symbols: kochkor muyuz (ram’s horns), the tumar amulet and shyrdak motifs. We do not copy tradition — we carefully carry it on in contemporary design.

03

Made in Bishkek

Every piece is sewn in our own atelier in small batches. Limited runs let us give special care to the cut, the fit and the details.

04

From Kyrgyzstan to you

We pack every order with care and ship it across Kyrgyzstan and anywhere in the world. In Bishkek, you can try pieces on and pick them up at our shop.

Collections

What we make

Four lines that work just as well in Bishkek as in Berlin: tradition in a modern cut.

Velvet chapans & robes

Long velvet chapan coats in deep colours — emerald, pomegranate, indigo. Wear them over a dress, over jeans or over a linen set.

Silk scarves

Pure silk with our own Kyrgyz ornament. Squares, twillies and stoles — the lightest souvenir you can bring home from Kyrgyzstan.

Sets & wide trousers

Linen and cotton shirts with wide-leg trousers. A relaxed cut that forgives both a long flight and a hot afternoon.

Bags & accessories

Quilted totes, ikat shoppers, turbans and belts. Assembled by hand from dense, hard-wearing fabrics.

Fabric

Fabric you want to touch

We choose cloth with our hands, not from a catalogue: how the silk falls into a fold, how the velvet catches light, how the linen holds its shape after a wash. That is why TURANAI pieces look more expensive than they are.

  • Pure silk — scarves, stoles, linings
  • Cotton and viscose velvet — chapans and jackets
  • Linen and cotton — shirts, trousers, sets
  • Every print drawn by hand by our designer

Our story

Turan and the moon

Two words meet in the brand name: Turan, the old name for the steppes and cities of Central Asia, and ai, which means «moon» in Kyrgyz. Together they read like a promise: an old heritage, seen in a soft, contemporary light.

TURANAI began with a single silk scarf, drawn just for the pleasure of it. Today it is a small workshop in central Bishkek where prints are drawn, cloth is cut, garments are sewn and parcels are packed for Europe, Asia and the Americas.

We do not make stage costumes and we do not copy museum pieces. We take Kyrgyz ornament — kochkor muyuz, tumar, the rosettes of shyrdak felt rugs — and put it on clothes you would actually wear on an ordinary Tuesday.

Questions

Frequently asked

What fabrics do you use?

Natural fabrics: silk, cotton and viscose velvet, linen and cotton. Synthetics appear only where nothing else works — in hardware and fastenings, for example.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship worldwide — to Europe, the USA, the UK, the UAE, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Russia and beyond. Send us your address on WhatsApp and we will quote the cost and delivery time.

How do I choose a size if I am not in Bishkek?

Send us your height and your bust, waist and hip measurements and we will recommend a size. Chapans and robes have a relaxed cut and suit a wide range of body shapes.

Can I order made to measure or have a piece altered?

Yes. Because we sew in small batches in our own atelier, we can change the length or fit, or make a piece in a different colour. Tell us what you need and we will confirm the timing.

How do I care for silk and velvet?

Silk scarves: hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, or dry clean; iron on the lowest setting through a cloth. Velvet: dry clean only, store on a hanger and steam it hanging.

Where is your shop?

Bishkek, 92 Toktogul Street — central, a short walk from Ala-Too Square. No appointment needed; we are open daily.
